Scientific Conference Agenda

Malignant Hyperthermia (MH)- New Insights and Connections with other Myopathies

Conference Objectives

  • To discuss new advances in the pathophysiology of MH and to gain insight into the role of the skeletal muscle ryanodine receptor, type 1 (RYR1) and other genes in MH and other related disorders.
  • To promote understanding of how MH susceptibility relates to other muscle disorders (e.g. Central Core Disease (CCD), muscular dystrophies, metabolic myopathies).
  • To discuss advances in the genetics of MH and improvements in diagnosis for MH susceptibility.
  • To improve the ability of anesthesiologists who volunteer as consultants (the HLCs) to provide up-to-date support to medical practitioners on the identification and management of MH and other muscle disorders.
  • To introduce young anesthesiologists and other interested investigators to this area of medicine.
  • This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of SUNY Upstate Medical University and the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States (MHAUS).  SUNY Upstate Medical University is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
  • SUNY Upstate Medical University designates this educational activity for a maximum of 13.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) (TM).  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
